48 Gerrard St London W1 has been a public house (for many years) at the end of Chinatown.
In July 2004 the public house was closed & planning applied by the owners Shaftesbury Plc to carry out a total internal upgrade and refurbishment. Once planning was granted a new public house licence was issued for the proposed incoming tenants.
In September 2004 Roots Contractors of Ewell in Surrey commenced on site and awarded Renderseal Ltd the contract of waterproofing the basement walls and large under-pavement vaults. Due to the masonry within the vaulted areas being in a fragile condition, it was considered not to prepare/key the brickwork by means of bush hammering.
Instead it was proposed to apply a wire mesh reinforcement to the masonry and then overcoat with approximately 40mm thickness of Gunite sprayed concrete left to a keyed finish. Sikadur Combiflex waterproof expansion/movement jointing was applied to the wall/floor junctions and all exposed construction joints together with Sika 1 pre batched waterproof rendering applied to all walls & vaults left to a wood float finish.
Upon completion of the above works our 10 year insurance backed guarantee was issued to Shaftesbury Plc.
